Dear Lafayette Families –
We are T-minus 5 days until the annual HSA auction, “Diplomatic Ties”. Many thanks to Laura Kline and Chris Lisi, your auction co-chairs and their team of volunteers. There are many hundreds of (wo)man hours that have gone into making Saturday an amazing party and fundraiser for our community. I hope to see many of you there! We will be celebrating the international diversity that exists within our families and communities.
Another huge thank you goes out to the HSA and the general membership on behalf of the teachers, the students, and the Tech Committee. At last Thursday’s General Meeting the membership approved an expenditure of up to $170,000 to replace our laptop computers in the 4th and 5th grade. This is amazingly generous support of our work with students in the classrooms. Thank you as always for your support of what we do in the classrooms.
There are several other great ways to join other families in the community in the coming weeks. This week there is a Parent Mindfulness workshop on Wednesday, 3/13, at 7pm. Please join Ms. Ryden to learn more about Peace of Mind here at Lafayette. The 4th grade will be hosting the Battle of the Books on Thursday, 3/14, at 6 pm. The following week on Wednesday, 3/20, we will be hosting the first ever Family Fitness and Fun Night from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. This replaces Jump Rope for Heart this year. Please come out and join our most incredible PE teachers – Ms. Howes and Ms. McClure.
Finally, don’t forget that Thursday, 3/14, is Pi Day! We’ll be celebrating throughout the building with the mathematical beauty of pi. You can also celebrate the beauty of pi with Pi Day Pizza night with Potomac Pizza. A portion of all sales from Lafayette families will be donated to the HSA.
Here’s to a great week with some spring-like weather (finally!),
Dr. B
