On January 26th, DCPS will be holding its annual Newcomer Fair. Students and families who have recently arrived in our country are invited to come for both practical and social reasons. Last year, 200 students came and were offered essential immunizations as well as mental and legal services. Families are often also in need of basic supplies. Lafayette Gives Back is assisting DCPS central in souring welcome bags for the fair. Below are some ways to help!
– Donate items Our DCPS contact has set up this Amazon wish list for the Welcome Bags here.
– Donate like-new stuffed animals To save money for the things that must be purchased new, we are collecting “like-new” stuffies! Starting on Tuesday morning, we will have a donation box at the front of school for your “like-new” stuffies. Please drop them off in a plastic bag to keep them protected.
– Donate winter coats – In our donation bin at the front of school, we are also collecting winter coats of all sizes. Again, no stains or rips please.
– Make cards – Drop a handmade card in the collection bin – With a phrase like – Welcome to your and your family, Bienvenido a usted y su familia, Bienvenue à vous et à votre famille, or marhaban bikum fi alkhasi bik waeayilatik.
