We are excited to be celebrating Arts and Music in Our Schools this month! In addition to hearing quotes about art, music and creativity over the morning announcements and seeing them posted around the building, we are honoring the arts with a few special events throughout the month!
Grade 3 has enjoyed a captivating assembly all about the recorder in conjunction with their recorder unit. Fourth and fifth graders have also started their ukulele unit this month!
We have capped off the annual Cherry Blossom art contest and sent off entries for our two Lafayette finalists, both from Ms. Johnson’s 1st grade; Betty Angel and Brooklyn Mesirow. Grades 4 and 5 were invited to learn cross stitch with guest artist Becki Turner, and 5th graders had the option of watching a demo on the pottery wheel and started their one-on-one workshops. PreK -1st Grade students all learned about Alma Thomas, and their inspired artwork is now on display in their respective hallways!
All Lafayette students are in the thick of our Images illustrations as we get back to our Lafayette tradition of publishing an art and literary anthology! And all grades have started learning their Arts Night music (details coming soon!).
Finally, during the last week in March all Lafayette students are welcome to have fun contributing to a graffiti mural celebrating the power of art and music to heal, excite, and enrich our lives!!!
Please save and send in extra fabric and small and medium boxes to the art room for our grade 3-5 open studio creators… both sewing and recycled box assemblage have been big hits lately and we need our supplies replenished! Old towels also needed 🙂
